U.S. Marshal Task Force Arrests Interstate Murder Fugitive

Memphis, TN – The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Michael Wayne Tackett for two counts Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer out of Mississippi and one count of Second Degree Murder out of Shelby County.

In October of 2021 Tackett allegedly shot at Mississippi Highway Patrol officers who were in pursuit of Tackett. This occurred in Walnut. Tackett was hospitalized after this incident.

On December 20, 2021 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Tackett for Second Degree out of Shelby County Criminal Court.

On February 1, 2022 Tackett left the hospital without surrendering to proper authorities. The case was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. An investigation determined that the fugitive was in the Memphis, Tennessee area. The Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force began to work in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Task Force to locate the fugitive.

Earlier today, the Two Rivers Task Force went to an apartment near the 5200 block of Shelborne in Memphis. Tackett was located in the apartment and taken into custody without incident.

"Dangerous fugitives with interstate arrest warrants are a top priority for the U.S. Marshals Service," said U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller.

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force in the Western District of Tennessee with offices in Memphis and Jackson. Its membership is composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and Special Agents with the Tennessee Department of Correction. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
