Task Force Announces the Arrest of Fugitive Jeremiah Ligon

Pittsburgh, PA – The U.S. Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force today arrested a man wanted by the Allegheny County Police Department on an arrest warrant issued in November 2020 for conspiracy-criminal homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Jeremiah Ligon, 22, is alleged to have been involved in a plot that led to the murder of Mager Rainey, 22, in October 2019. Ligon was the sole remaining individual in this plot to be arrested. Two others were charged in November 2020.

The WPAFTF, working with the U.S. Attorney and Penn Hills Police Department, developed information that Ligon was in the 200 block of Lansdowne Drive in Penn Hills.  Deputy U.S. Marshals obtained a search warrant for a residence and, with the assistance of officers from the Penn Hills Police Department as well as the Pittsburgh Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, executed the warrant resulting in Ligon’s arrest.

The WPAFTF operates in conjunction with members of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Erie Police Department, US Department of Homeland Security, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.

The task force objectives are to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug offenses, sex offenders and other serious felonies.  Nationally the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, eight regional task forces as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
