Albuquerque, NM – On Tuesday, January 10, the United States Marshals Service District of New Mexico – Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) captured a fugitive at a motel, in Northeast Albuquerque.
Brandon Sanchez, 29, was wanted for a federal probation violation, with the underlying charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Taking individuals like Brandon Sanchez into custody gets us one step closer to ridding our city of individuals who have no regard for others,” said Sonya K. Chavez, U.S. Marshal for the District of New Mexico. “Arrests like this one send the message that chronic criminal offenders will not be allowed to run rampant in our city,” she added.
Members of the USMS-SWIFT developed a location for Sanchez. He was arrested after a brief stand-off with no injuries to person, nor damage to property.
“I have said time and time again, there are certain people that need to be taken to jail for the safety of our community, and this is one of them,” said Chief Harold Medina. “By working closely with our federal partners, we are sending a clear message that if individuals are committing violent crimes in our city, we will find them and bring them to justice.”
Sanchez was transported to the Pete Domenici Federal Courthouse-USMS Cellblock where he was booked (fingerprinted and photographed) for his federal probation charge.
In addition to his current federal probation violation, Sanchez is also a suspect in 14 armed robberies that have occurred in the Albuquerque area, over the past two weeks.
The United States Marshals Service District of New Mexico – Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team in this arrest was comprised of Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State Police, New Mexico Department of Corrections-Probation & Parole (STIU), the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Marshals Service.
