Houston Homicide Suspect Captured by U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Denver

Denver, CO – The U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force located and arrested a Houston homicide suspect late Monday afternoon in Denver. 

Isaac Elmore, of Savannah, Georgia, is wanted by the Houston, TX Police Department (HPD) on a felony arrest warrant for capital murder in connection to the Feb. 21, 2022 shooting death of Johnathan Oghenesoro, 42. According to a HPD media release from Nov. 29, Elmore, 21, and a second suspect, Bernard Aaron Robertson, already in custody, got into an altercation with Oghenesoro in the parking lot of a motel at 12929 Northwest Freeway (US HWY 290) service road around 6:10pm on Feb. 21. A warrant for Elmore’s arrest in that case was issued on Nov. 27. 

Elmore is also wanted on an arrest warrant for a probation violation out of Chatham County, Georgia, stemming from a previous conviction for armed robbery and hijacking a motor vehicle. That warrant was issued after Elmore walked out of a court hearing in Savannah, Georgia on Jan 6. 2022. 

Investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Savannah recently developed information indicating Elmore may be hiding in the Denver metro area. On Jan. 17, that information was relayed to the U.S. Marshals Service’s Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) who picked up the investigation. After several days of surveillance and investigation, COVOTF members discovered Elmore to be working at a business in Littleton near Highway 85 and W Highlands Ranch Parkway.

On Jan 30., COVOTF members from the U.S. Marshals, DEA, Lakewood Police Dept., and U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement identified Elmore getting onto a RTD light rail train at the Mineral Station in Littleton. Elmore was followed to the Evans Station at 400 West Evans Ave in Denver where he exited the train and was then contacted by the COVOTF and taken into custody. Elmore initially provided a false name to investigators, but his identity was quickly confirmed. 

Elmore was transported by U.S. Marshals to the Denver Downtown Detention Center where he was booked on both the outstanding homicide warrant from Texas as well as the probation violation warrant from Georgia. He is currently awaiting extradition.

The success of this arrest represents a culmination of extensive cooperative investigative efforts between the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Lakewood Police Department, and the Houston, TX Police Department. 

The Colorado Violent Offender Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional fugitive task force that targets the most violent offenders to include those wanted for murder, assault, sex offenses, and other serious offenses throughout the state and country.  Nationally, the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, eight regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
