U.S. Marshals Task Force Apprehends Attempted Homicide Suspect Fugitive Found Hiding Underneath a Bed

For immediate release

Madison, WI - Today, members of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force  (GLRFTF) captured a fugitive on the 300 block of Rethke Avenue on Madison’s east side.

Raizelle Schaffer, 20, was wanted on a warrant for attempted first-degree intentional homicide after a Jan. 7 incident in the 4500 block of Village Lane in Madison where Schaffer allegedly shot at the victim’s vehicle in a drive-by.

Today, members of the GLRFTF contacted a residence associated with Schaffer where they knocked and announced before being greeted by the suspect’s family member. Several occupants inside the home denounced their knowledge of Schaffer and his whereabouts.

Schaffer’s brother, Daivon Schaffer, intentionally blocked law enforcement officers from accessing the residence before being placed in handcuffs and charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest.

In a search of the home, Schaffer was located hiding beneath a bed in a room on the unit’s second floor. He was taken into custody and booked into the Dane County Jail without further incident.

The U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in this arrest comprised officers from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.
