The Honorable Clinton J. Fuchs was appointed by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on May 16, 2024, to serve as the United States Marshal (USM) for the District of Maryland (D/MD).
USM Fuchs is responsible for the management, administration, and direction of operations throughout the D/MD. His responsibilities as the USM include leading and directing a staff whose core missions include security and protection of the United States Courts, criminal investigations, fugitive apprehension, execution of federal court orders and other law enforcement activities.
USM Fuchs began his law enforcement career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) in the D/MD in 2008. As a member of the USAO’s Violent Crime Section, USM Fuchs handled criminal investigations and prosecutions in cases involving racketeering, murder, narcotics trafficking, robbery, and firearms violations. Between 2016 and 2020, USM Fuchs served as the Chief of the USAO’s Violent Crime Section and from 2020 to 2022, he served as the Deputy Chief of the USAO’s Criminal Division.
USM Fuchs received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1998, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1998 to 2002. USM Fuchs then attended Columbia University Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2005. After law school, USM Fuchs served as a law clerk to Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the D/MD, and Judge Richard J. Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. USM Fuchs also previously worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
