U.S. Marshals Capture Memphis Man Wanted for Child Rape in New Mexico

For immediate release

Memphis, TN – U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) fugitive task forces in Memphis, TN, and Albuquerque, NM, coordinated to arrest Humberto Martinez, 26, who was wanted for sex crimes against a child in Memphis.

On December 9, 2024, a warrant for the arrest of Humberto Martinez, of Memphis, was issued in Memphis Shelby County for rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT) developed information that Martinez had fled to Albuquerque.

The FAT Team requested assistance from the USMS Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) in Memphis to locate and apprehend Martinez. The TRVFTF adopted the case for investigation and provided investigative leads to the USMS Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) in New Mexico.

On December 13, 2024, the SWIFT team located Martinez at an Albuquerque residence and took him into custody without incident. Martinez awaits the extradition process back to Tennessee.

The U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force within Western Tennessee. The TRVFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, and Gibson County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis and Jackson Police Officers, Tennessee Department of Correction Special Agents and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Since 2021, the TRVFTF has captured approximately 3,000 violent offenders and sexual predators.
