Suspect in Deadly Grain Elevator Assault Arrested in Mexico

Hamburg, IA – U.S. Marshals have arrested a Muscatine man on an attempted murder warrant in connection with a deadly assault at a grain elevator in Hamburg in October.

Pedro Ivan Andrade, 37, was arrested following a fugitive investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the Fremont County Sheriffs Office, the Fremont County District Attorney and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

Andrade's warrant was issued as the result of a Fremont County Sheriff's investigation into an incident that occurred on Oct. 10 in Hamburg, where Andrade allegedly pushed a coworker from the top of a 60-foot tall industrial grain bin during a dispute, causing massive critical injuries to the victim.

During the course of the investigation U.S Marshals were able to determine that Andrade had fled the U.S. to Mexico in the days following the assault. U.S. Marshals were able to narrow their search to a neighborhood outside of Medina, Yucatan, Mexico.

On Thursday morning, Mexican authorities, acting on information provided by the U.S. Marshals Service, located Andrade and took him into custody without incident. Thursday night he was deported to the U.S., arriving in Houston, Texas, where he was booked into the Harris County Jail.

Upon completion of extradition proceedings in Texas, Andrade will be transported back to Fremont County to face charges of attempted murder, willful injury and flight to avoid prosecution. Under Iowa law, attempted murder is a Class B felony which carries a possible sentence of 25 years incarceration, with flight to avoid prosecution carrying a possible sentence of five years incarceration.
