U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted Fugitive Accused of Murdering Mother of His Children Arrested in Jamaica

Washington, DC - The manhunt for one of the U.S. Marshals' 15 Most Wanted fugitives ended Sunday, Feb. 2, after the accused murderer was found and arrested in Jamaica.

Leroy Headley, 38, is wanted by the South Burlington Police Department in Vermont for the May 2018 murder of Anako Lumumba, the mother of his two children.

U.S. Marshals worked various investigative angles, to include exploring Headley's ties to Jamaica. Those ties were analyzed further by investigators in the U.S. Marshals Service Jamaica Foreign Field Office with the help of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team. Investigators developed information that led them to believe Headley was in the Westmoreland Parish of Jamaica, specifically in the town of Negril.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, shortly after 7 p.m., Jamaican authorities spotted Headley in Negril driving a vehicle that was previously identified during the course of the fugitive investigation. Authorities stopped the vehicle and took Headley into custody without incident.

Headley will be transported to Kingston, Jamaica, where he is scheduled for a court hearing on Feb. 4 to determine his return to the U.S.
