New York, NY – Two deputy U.S. Marshals with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force were injured this morning in a shootout in the Bronx with a suspect wanted in Massachusetts for a November shooting of a state police officer.
The task force was in the Wakefield section of the Bronx searching for Andre Sterling, 35, when the shootout began at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sterling died in the exchange.
One Deputy Marshal was hit in the leg, and another was struck in his arm and leg. Both were taken to a local hospital and were being treated. Both are expected to recover.
