Juan Mattos, Jr. was appointed by President Barack Obama to become the United States Marshal for the District of New Jersey in July, 2011. As the United States Marshal, Mattos ensures the protection of the Federal Judiciary and the apprehension of fugitives at the federal, state, and local levels.

Purpose: The New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Force (NY/NJ RFTF) became operational in May of 2002. With Memorandum of Understandings with over 80 federal, state, or local agencies and three fully operational offices in the New York/New Jersey area, the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Force has made an extraordinary impact on the investigation and apprehension of the region's most dangerous and violent fugitives.
