Fugitive from Mexico Wanted in Connection with the Disappearance of U.S. Citizen, Captured

Alpine, TX – Eiler Cruz-Silva was returned to the Republic of Mexico by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) after an arrest warrant was issued in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, charging him with Forcible Disappearance.
Cruz-Silva, 36, was wanted by Mexico Law Enforcement Authorities after he was formally charged with "Forcible Disappearance" of Marybell Valenzuela Herrera, a United States citizen, who was residing in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.
On April 16, 2022, Mexico Law Enforcement Authorities were alerted by family members that Marybell was missing. Evidence and witness testimonies showed that Eiler Cruz-Silva, her boyfriend, and a legal resident of the Republic of Mexico, was the last person to have seen her.
When Mexican Law Enforcement Authorities attempted to locate Eiler Cruz-Silva for questioning, he fled the area, changed his appearance, and attempted to illegally cross into the United States.
On April 18, 2022, U.S. Border Patrol Agents apprehended Cruz-Silva in the Del RionSector, of Texas. It was determined that he had illegally crossed into the United States.
Mexico Law Enforcement Authorities contacted the United States Marshals Service, Alpine, Texas, office and requested assistance with locating Cruz-Silva. With the assistance of U.S. Border Patrol Del Rio and Big Bend Sector, enough information was garnered for the Fiscalia General del Estado (FGE) and the Agencia Estatal de Investigacion (AEI) of Chihuahua, Mexico, to obtain an arrest warrant for Cruz-Silva. On April 28, 2022, after diligent efforts by the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Presidio, Texas, Port of Entry, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigation Division (CID), and the U.S. Marshals Service, working in conjunction with the Agenica Estatal de Investigacion (AEI), Fiscalia General del Estado (FGE), Instituto Nacional de Migracion (INM) and La Guardia Nacional in Ojinaga, Mexico, Cruz-Silva was successfully returned to Mexican Law Enforcement Authorities in the Republic of Mexico through the Presidio, Texas, Port of Entry.
The coordination between law enforcement authorities from both the United States and the Republic of Mexico demonstrates both countries dedication to obtaining answers and justice for Marybell Valenzuela Herrera's family in her disappearance. Additionally, this continued cooperation will only make the citizens of Texas and Chihuahua safer.
