Phoenix, AZ – This evening, Gilberto Buitimea Bacasegua, 52, was extradited back to the United States after his arrest in Sinaloa, Mexico. Bacasegua was wanted by the Peoria Police Department for Sexual Conduct with a Minor, Sexual Abuse and Kidnapping.

“The success in locating and returning Bacasegua back to Arizona to face multiple egregious felony charges, directly reflects the outstanding investigatory and collaborative efforts made by the Peoria Police Department, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the United States Marshal Service,” said Acting U.S. Marshal Van Bayless.  “Cases like this show just how vital it is for agencies to diligently work together to ensure the safety and security of the community.”

It is alleged that in March of 2016, Bacasegua, was charged with (2) counts of Sexual Conduct with a Minor, dangerous crimes against children, Felony Class 2; (2) counts of Sexual Abuse, dangerous crimes against children, Felony Class 3; and (1) count of Kidnapping, dangerous crime against children, Felony Class 2.  A warrant was then subsequently issued for the arrest of Bacasegua requiring him to appear before the court to face these crimes.

The Peoria Police Department and Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for International Extraditions requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service WANTED Violent Offenders Task Force in locating and arresting Bacasegua.

The U.S. Marshals Service District of Arizona Mexico Investigative Liaison (MIL) Team located Fugitive Bacasegua in Mexico and coordinated with Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for International Extraditions, the U.S. Marshals Service International Investigations Branch Mexico Foreign Field Office (MFFO) and Mexican Law Enforcement to extradite Bacasegua back to the United States.

On May 26, 2023, Bacasegua was successfully escorted from Mexico to Arizona by U.S. Marshals Service District of Arizona Mexico Investigative Liaison (MIL) Team without incident.
