Homicide Suspect Arrested in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM – On August 30, 2024, a homicide suspect, wanted out of Capitan, NM, was arrested in Northeast Albuquerque.

Samuel Duran, 30, was wanted on a Otero County felony warrant charging him with Murder in the 1st Degree, Conspiracy, Attempt to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Impersonating a Peace Officer.  This warrant stems from a crime that occurred in Capitan, NM, on July 28, 2024. Duran was wanted on a New Mexico Department of Corrections Probation and Parole warrant.

Additionally, during the same arrest incident, Angela Montoya, 27, was arrested on a New Mexico warrant, charging her with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

Prior to these arrests, several other persons of interest, related to the homicide, were arrested. They include:  Benisha Shanta, 39, arrested August 5, 2024 in El Paso, TX.  Gabriel Thyberg, 41, arrested August 9, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM.

This investigation was the culmination of efforts by multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the New Mexico State Police, the New Mexico Department of Corrections-Probation and Parole, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
