Harrisburg, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrests of Anu-Malik Johnson – a 21-year old York man – and Jonathon Julius Martin – a 31-year old man formerly of York.
On December 2, 2019, the West Manchester Township Police Department in York County investigated a shooting death that occurred within a movie theater. On December 5, 2019, detectives charged Anu-Malik Johnson with Homicide for his role in the incident. Attempts to find Johnson around York were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend them.
Members of the fugitive task force investigated and learned that Johnson would likely be found with Jonathon Martin. On December 3, 2016, the Springettsbury Township Police Department charged Martin with multiple offenses – most notably two counts of Attempt Homicide with a firearm – after he fired into a vehicle, striking two women. On December 8, 2016, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole charged Martin with absconding from parole supervision (based on a conviction for drug distribution). Martin fled York after the shooting and remained a fugitive.
This morning at about 7:00 a.m., the fugitive investigation led officers to the first block of Oak Street in Pennsville, New Jersey where both men were arrested without incident. They were turned over to Salem County (New Jersey) officials to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
United States Marshal Pane stated, "It's the Marshals Services' duty to ensure that those charged with violent crimes have their day in court. It is my sincere hope that the community and victim's family will find some measure of comfort knowing these suspects will face justice."
The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies; including the York City Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, the York County Sheriff's Office, the York County District Attorney's Office and the Spring Garden Township Police Department - all of whom participated in this arrest. The task force was also assisted by the West Manchester Township and Springettsbury Township police departments.
