U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Suspect Wanted for Reckless Homicide

Urbana, IL – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (GLRFTF) in conjunction with the USMS Northern District of Texas (N/TX) North Texas Fugitive Task Force (NTFTF) arrested Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez on January 22, 2025, in Milford, TX. Saenz-Suarez was wanted on Champaign County IL warrant(s) for Reckless Homicide (Class 3 Felony) and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident (Class I Felony). This stemmed from a serious traffic crash that occurred on January 19, 2025, in Urbana, IL. The crash resulted in the deaths of two (2) passengers who were seated in a car stopped at a red light, which was rear-ended by Saenz-Suarez. Saenz-Suarez is a Mexican Citizen who has been deported once from the United States.

The USMS GLRFTF, Central District of Illinois, adopted the Saenz-Suarez investigation, and the task force began an extensive and detailed investigation into his whereabouts. This multi-agency investigation gained assistance from the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office, Urbana Police Department, USMS Technical Operations Group (TOG), USMS Northern District of Illinois (N/IL) GLRFTF, USMS Eastern District of Arkansas (E/AR), and the USMS N/TX NTFTF.

On January 22, 2025, the USMS investigation revealed information indicating Saenz Suarez was likely traveling south toward the Southern Border of the United States. A subsequent request for assistance was sent to the USMS N/TX NTFTF. Deputy United States Marshals (DUSM) and USMS Task Force Officers (TFO) took Saenz-Suarez safely into custody at approximately 0915 hours CST for further transportation to the Dallas County Jail, Texas, to await extradition.

The USMS GLRFTF is a multi-agency task force with divisions in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The Central District of Illinois has task force locations in Springfield, Peoria, and Urbana and is composed of members from Springfield PD, Sangamon Co. State’s Attorney’s Office, Illinois Department of Corrections Apprehension, Macoupin Co. SO, Sherman PD, Peoria Co. SO, Peoria PD, Bloomington PD, Normal PD, Knox Co. SO, Decatur PD, Champaign Co. State’s Attorney’s Office, Champaign PD, Danville PD, Kankakee Co. SO, Kankakee PD, Bradley PD, Iroquois Co. SO, Department of Homeland Security- Enforcement and Removal, and the Illinois National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.
