The Honorable Glenn M. McNeill, Jr. was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., confirmed by the United States Senate, and appointed on December 9, 2022, to serve as the United States Marshal (USM) for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
A military veteran, United States Marshal McNeill joined the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in 1993, where he served in various positions starting as a Trooper, multiple assignments within the Special Operations Section, and as a Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Rising through the ranks to ultimately leading the Special Operations Unit as its Troop Commander, United States Marshal McNeill was promoted to Major in 2014. In this position, he served as Director of Training and afforded the opportunity to oversee the administration of the State Highway Patrol Training Academy. In 2017, United States Marshal McNeill was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina as the Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
United States Marshal McNeill has held memberships with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, North Carolina Police Executive's Association, and served as Commissioner on the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He is a recipient of the North Carolina Governor's Award for Bravery and Heroism, the North Carolina Governor's Award for Excellence, and the Heroism Award from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
United States Marshal McNeill received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mount Olive in 2001. He also received a Graduate Certificate from the University of Virginia, and completed the North Carolina State University's Administrative Officers Management Program and FBI's National Academy.
