The Federal Performance Based Detention Standards (FPBDS) are derived from the American Correctional Association Standards, and are designed for use in reviewing non-federal facilities that house federal prisoners to ensure these facilities are safe, humane, and protect prisoners statutory and constitutional rights.
The U.S. Marshals Service updated the FPBDS, and version 12 will be effective May 1, 2025. The current version of the FPBDS, effective February 6, 2023, will remain in effect until 11:59pm, Eastern Time, April 30, 2025.
