Director's Statement on Equal Employment Opportunity in the U.S. Marshals Service
Equal Opportunity Resources
As Director of the United States Marshals Service (USMS), the Nation’s oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency, I am committed to leading an environment that promotes equality of opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment where all have the freedom to compete on a fair and level playing field. The USMS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, or pregnancy status), age, disability (physical or mental), protected genetic information, parental status, marital status, political affiliation, or any other non-merit factor.
This memorandum applies to all conditions of employment, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, selection, promotion, training, career development opportunities, transfers, reassignments, awards, compensation, and separation. Managers and supervisors have the responsibility and are accountable for fostering and maintaining a discrimination-free work environment by ensuring their practices are fair, equitable, and appropriate.
All employees have the duty to understand and identify any unlawful conduct, as well as maintain a workplace free of discriminatory practices. All employees or applicants who feel they have experienced discriminatory practices are expected to make a good faith, constructive effort to quickly resolve any issues or concerns brought forward in the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity’s (EEO) complaint process. Employees and applicants are free to raise any EEO issues or concerns, and to participate in the EEO complaint process without fear of retaliation or reprisal. The USMS will not tolerate workplace harassment or reprisal against anyone who engages in protected activity and employs a "zero tolerance" policy for any form of unlawful discrimination or harassment. Any individual who believes they have been discriminated against or subject to harassment should contact the Office of EEO within 45 days of the alleged incident.
Should you have any questions, please contact the Office of EEO at (703) 740-8500.
